COPA NEWS

1.24.2012

Due to the success of Barry Manilow, the sustained influence of the mafia, the popularity of world soccer, etc, this COPA page will not be updated in the traditional way. Rather, COPA is now to be referred to as Rory Rorshak, and the official site for COPA and Rory Rorshak will reside here. Unfortunately, COPA is a title that cannot be searched via the mighty Google, or in iTunes, or anywhere else for that matter, and provide results that would lead here. With respect to forces larger than the creators of Gospel Cigar Rock, the title of the figurehead identity must now change. Enjoy the new Rory Rorshak page! There's a new album and video soon to come this winter to celebrate.

"The Gospel Cigar" album is set to be mastered on January 16, 2012. It contains 12 epic songs. There is a 96.3% chance that the cover will include a nipple, if the following link to media sources in any indication:

Dylan Seals chats about mixing the first of many songs for Copa's next project, tentatively titled "The Gospel Cigar".

COPA has now claimed itself the inventors of both "gospel cigar rock" and now "anthemic nuclear pirate drinking music fit for voyages to the edge of a flat earth".

The development of songs like "The Mess" and a new song titled "What Could Be Better Than Loving You" are written in 6/8 and have a dramatic and eccentric sense of finality that can best be described by the aforementioned genre. You can enjoy "The Mess" by listening to the player in this page's side panel, and the live version is available at http://copa.bandcamp.com on the Copa Club recording.

"What Could Be Better Than Loving You" is in the final tracking phases as of this post's date. Arrrr. She's a beauty of a tune with early 80's tron-sounding guitars that sound nothing like guitars, off-set by spaghetti guitars recorded in a shower that are a shameless salute to the soundtracks of Ennio Morricone's wonderful 60's western films. The Tron-ish guitars were a treat to record: using an electro-harmonix POG octave unit through a moogerfooger MURF and a stereo chorus on a Rivera S120 amplifier. HOT! YUM!

This year's recordings promise to be a stimulating cornucopia of interesting sonic textures.

Whoa, double announcement: THE COPA CLUB is finally available to all. Put it in your collection now: it sizzles with hot gospel cigar! CLICK HERE TO GO TO BANDCAMP AND PROCURE THE GOODS.

Also note: The entire COPA collection has been pooled together via the links on the DOWNLOAD page. If you want more gospel cigar, poke around a bit and you may find something you've never heard before.

...ALSO note: THE CUTTING ROOM FLOOR series of recordings on the DOWNLOAD page. Some COPA stuff has been getting dusty for a long time, but there's some cool sounds and ideas in there. For a sonic adventure, grab some of the 'cutting room floor' material and take a run with your ipod. It could be fun.

Copa announces a new web page. The new site is a clean and convenient way for folks to connect with Copa past, present, and future. Also included with the site are a number of goodies that are unavailable anywhere else, including B sides from The Copa Club, and tracks that simply wouldn't fit on The Copa Canon.

Recent developments in gear and production techniques have allowed Rory to resurrect a few old songs and futurize them with new sounds. Look for 2 EPs of significant length to be released this year. The content of the EPs will be a hybrid of songs that premiered on the Discografiti album and were performed and recorded live on The Copa Club, as well as a number of tunes that are outright brand new. After viewing hours and hours of Ennio Morriconei films and the 1980's television series "V", expect a sound in the vein of spaghetti western meets Blade Runner. The first EP's songs will follow something like:

CONTROL

WE SHOULD BE TOGETHER

BIRD IN THE HAND

MIDNIGHT MANSION MOON

LIFE LIKE FICTION

TO KNOW YOU

TWISTED TREE

and the second EP to follow will include:

FINGERS AND TOES

THE YEAR I GOT EVERYTHING I WANTED

YOU NEVER TALK TO ME (ANYMORE)

FEATHERS

WHAT COULD BE BETTER THAN LOVING YOU?

CHILDREN OF THE EMPIRE OF THE SUN

THE WALLS

I LOVE YOU SO

Already, half of the aforementioned list is half recorded. That accounts for 25% progress. Right on!

As the sounds develop and the songs follow, this site will be the solar plexus that connects all facets of the gospel cigar.
